Proteas batsman Faf du Plessis and World Cup-winning Springbok captain Siya Kolisi warmed the hearts of many less-privileged people in the Bonteheuwel community on Thursday.

As part of the Kolisi Foundation, which has been highly active during the nationwide lockdown, the two sportsmen, partnered by wives Imari du Plessis and Rachel Kolisi, as well as Rachel’s brother, Joel Smith, who is in charge of the foundation, provided families in the Cape Town suburb with food parcels.

In a post on Instagram on Friday, Du Plessis said: ‘Yesterday we saw how many people coming together and giving their best can change a community. They are the heroes.’

With a lot of helping hands, the Bonteheuwel community have set up 50 daily kitchens to give close to 5,000 people much-needed meals.

The food was donated by the Food Lovers’ Market group, with Du Plessis and Kolisi on hand to help with the distribution.
