Dan Vickerman, aged 37, passed away at his family home in Sydney on Saturday night.

He suffered a sudden death and it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his tragic passing. Vickerman leaves behind his wife and two young children.

The South African-born player, who was schooled at Bishops College in Cape Town and played for SA U21 in 1999, represented the Brumbies in Super Rugby from 2001 to 2003, before signing for the Waratahs where he turned out in 58 matches between 2004 and 2011.

Vickerman made his Test debut against France in 2002 and went on to represent the Wallabies in 63 Tests between 2002 and 2011, including that year’s World Cup where Australia reached the semi-finals.

He was forced to retire in 2012 due to recurring stress fractures in his right leg, and has since worked in the real estate and development industry.
