Jaden Hendrikse and Salmaan Moerat are set to be included in the Springbok squad for the upcoming Test series against Wales in July.
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Sharks scrumhalf Hendrikse and Stormers lock Moerat are expected to be called up in mitigation of long-term injuries to Cobus Reinach and RG Snyman.
Reinach has had surgery to repair a shoulder injury, while Snyman is still recovering from a knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines for the entire season.
There are also question marks over Herschel Jantjies as the Stormers scrumhalf missed the Capetonians’ final round Vodacom United Rugby Championship trip to Llanelli with a hand injury. It is understood he will seek a second opinion on his injury and would consider surgery, which will rule him out for up to six weeks.
Jantjies is still expected to be named in the Bok squad, but his injury could mean a promotion for Hendrikse, whose Sharks teammate Grant Williams is also on the national radar but the national selectors reportedly consider the former higher in the pecking order.
Hendrikse made his Test debut against Argentina in the Rugby Championship last year, but suffered a long-term leg injury in his second appearance off the bench.
Moerat, meanwhile, was part of the 32-man squad for the November Tests in the UK, but is still to make his first appearance in the green and gold.
