Graphic details have emerged at the beginning of the rape trial of Ireland duo Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding.
It is alleged that the Ulster pair raped a then 19-year-old student at a house party at Jackson’s house in June 2016, while two lesser charges have been brought against two other men.
The Irish Rugby Football Union and Ulster Rugby have stood the players down until the conclusion of the court process.
In an opening address, prosecutor Toby Hebworth QC outlined the case against the men.
‘The night ended, we say, with the first two defendants engaging in sexual activity with that young woman against her wishes, as they well knew or as they simply were not interested in considering. The third was hoping to join in.’
Hedworth stated that the victim had at one stage engaged in ‘consensual kissing’ with Jackson, but had made it clear she would go no further. The young student alleges that the atmosphere changed when she returned to Jackson’s bedroom to collect her bag.
It’s alleged that Jackson followed her to his room ‘where he pushed her onto the bed before pulling her trousers and pants down’, before raping her.
‘He had not in any way sought her consent and indeed had used force to achieve his aim. After this, it is claimed Stuart Olding entered the room at which point the victim said “please not him as well”.’
Hedworth said that as Jackson continued to rape her, Olding forced her to perform oral sex on him.
The men have denied the charges against them.
