Elton Jantjies could opt to join Japanese side the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes, where he will link up with his former boss Johan Ackermann.
Jantjies is currently playing for Pau in the French Top 14 after he had signed for the club as a medical joker, a term used to describe a player who joins on a short-term loan deal as injury cover.
He is expected to return to the Lions following the completion of the Top 14. But according to a report on Netwerk24, the player may conclude an agreement with the Docomo Red Hurricanes which will come into effect later this year.
Should Jantjies head to Japan, he will be reunited with Ackermann, who was also his coach at the Lions during the union’s local dominance between 2016 and 2018 when they reached three consecutive Super Rugby finals.
He has been on the Lions’ payroll since 2006, when he started his junior career at the union. Jantjies made his senior professional debut for the Lions in 2010.
