Lions flank Kwagga Smith

Kwagga Smith has recovered from injury to be named in the Lions’ 26-man touring squad to Australasia.

Back on 19 March, it was announced that Smith would most likely be out of action for six weeks due to a groin injury, but he looks set to make a sooner than expected return to play.

However, Warren Whiteley has failed to make the cut as he remains sidelined with a pectoral injury.

The Lions are set to face the Brumbies, Chiefs and Crusaders overseas, with coach Swys de Bruin emphasising that the team would need to stand up and ‘fight’ after suffering a heavy loss to the Sharks last Friday.

‘I’m here for the effort, the character and the guts, and I didn’t see it [against the Sharks]. That’s my biggest concern. I’ve lost before, and I can lose if I see the guys have given effort… but tonight [Friday] I didn’t get effort.’
