Trevor Nyakane is ready to stake a claim at tighthead prop for the Bulls and the Springboks in 2017.
Over the past couple of seasons, Nyakane has been unable to settle in one position as he has been operating between tighthead and loosehead, but on the eve of the new Super Rugby campaign he has revealed his preferred position.
‘I’m more of a tighthead prop. It’s something I have been working on and I want to do well at,’ he told sponsors Puma. ‘We all know a tighthead has to be strong, yet have the ability to move around.’
As for his goals in 2017, Nyakane has set his sights on Super Rugby and Rugby Championship glory.
‘I just want to do my best week in and week out whether in the green and gold or with the Bulls and hopefully we win some silverware.’
The 27-year-old went on to praise veteran Italy prop Martin Castrogiovanni, who he believes is the most challenging tighthead around.
‘Martin Castrogiovanni is a great scrummager and knows when to attack his opponents,’ Nyakane pointed out.
