A round up of what some of South Africa’s leading Sunday papers are saying, including reports of an offer from France for Springbok flank Pieter-Steph du Toit.

Sunday newspaper Rapport carries big news for the 2019 World Player of the Year. According to the report by Brenden Nel, French giants Montpellier have offered Du Toit a three-year contract worth R75 million – with a monthly wage of just over R2 million – which would make him the highest paid player in the world.

The report goes on to say that Du Toit will be in talks with his agent over what to do. South Africa’s player have been given a 21-day grace period until 14 May to find better deals overseas – as part of the salary cut agreement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In further transfer news, it appears that Vodacom Bulls flyhalf Manie Libbok could be on his way to Durban as incoming director of rugby Jake White continues his revolution of the squad. The report by Hendrik Cronje states that the Sharks are looking for a player to cover both flyhalf and fullback during the Currie Cup as they expect both Aphelele Fassi and Curwin Bosch to be called up to the Springbok squad.

White reportedly does not see Libbok as a first-choice flyhalf and would rather let him go to Kings Park – where he could get more game time. After Bosch, the Sharks currently have Boeta Chamberlain – who made his Vodacom Super Rugby debut this year – as well as ex-Maties flyhalf Jordan Chait and 2019 SA Schools star Kian Meadon as flyhalves.
