Western Province Rugby has obtained the required safety certificate for Newlands Stadium, which will allow the iconic venue to host the Rugby Championship Test between the Boks and the All Blacks in October.

SA Rugby had earlier in the year confirmed that Cape Town will host the Rugby Championship Test between the Springboks and All Blacks on 7 October, but the venue was yet to be determined, because Newlands did not have the necessary paperwork proving that the stadium is compliant in terms of the Safety at Sports and Recreation Events Act.

According to www.iol.co.za, a source confirmed on Thursday that WP Rugby’s application to obtain the necessary paperwork to declare Newlands safe was successful and that the Springboks’ all-important home Test against the All Blacks will definitely be staged at the stadium.

It will be the first All Blacks Test played at Newlands since 2008, when the visitors beat South Africa 19-0 in the then Tri-Nations.
