Last week, the country’s leader enjoyed a phone call with captain Siya Kolisi ahead of the semi-final clash against Wales. He promised the Bok skipper that he would fly to Yokohama to support the team personally if they prevailed.

The Springboks kept their part of the deal and now, so has the country’s leader.

‘I’m going to meet our rugby team and I’m looking forward to going to see them in their camp and give them a lot of encouragement from 57 million South Africans who are standing behind them,’ said the President.

The Presidency South Africa tweeted: ‘”South Africa’s moment has arrived”. President @CyrilRamaphosa has urged all South Africans to wear their Springbok rugby jerseys and at exactly 13h00, pause for a moment of silence, and those in their cars blow their horns and make the @Springboks feel our presence.

South Africa take on England at 11:00am on Saturday in a bid to win their third World Cup title.
