The Blitzboks produced a powerful performance to claim an impressive 35-7 win over the USA in their Sydney Sevens semi-final on Sunday. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

In their quarter-final clash, the Blitzboks claimed a hard-fought 17-0 win over Kenya, but they turned on the style against the USA to claim a comprehensive win that was built around physical dominance.

The Blitzboks opened the scoring with a beautifully-worked try early on that saw Seabelo Senatla run a superb line to collect a well-timed switch pass before darting 80m to score under the posts.

However, Justin Geduld was shown a yellow card soon after for a deliberate knock-down, and in his absence Perry Baker went over to score for the USA. The successful conversion brought the scores level.

That looked likely to be the scoreline at half-time, but American Folau Niua was then sent to the sin bin for a high tackle, which provided an opening for Tim Agaba to score a decisive try for the Blitzboks with the final play of the opening stanza.

With the Blitzboks still enjoying a one-man advantage at the start of the second half, Werner Kok showed great strength to fend off a would-be tackler and power over for a try that sent his side into an unassailable 21-7 lead.

Some thrilling end-to-end action next saw Justin Geduld finish off another try for the Blitzboks, while Senatla added one more before the final whistle.

They will face Australia or Argentina in the Cup final at 11:48 (SA time).
