The Sharks have announced the signings of Lions players James Venter and Madosh Tambwe for the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season.

The duo are coming off impressive Currie Cup seasons for the Lions, helping the team to the final where they were beaten by the Free State Cheetahs.

Tambwe ended the season as tied-top try-scorer with seven tries in eight games. The Zaire-born wing, who turned 22 this year, has spent his entire career in Johannesburg, attending Parktown Boys’ High and playing for the Lions at U18 and U19 level. He made his Super Rugby debut in 2017, but first grabbed headlines when he scored four tries against the Stormers in 2018.

Venter, meanwhile, grew up in KwaZulu-Natal and attended Port Shepstone High and Glenwood High School. He played for the Sharks U18 Craven Week side, but then moved to Johannesburg after finishing his schooling. He worked his way through the Lions’ youth structures, playing for their U19, U21 and Rugby Challenge sides.

The 23-year-old flank made his Super Rugby debut this year and scored two tries off the bench in the Currie Cup final.

The Sharks will soon confirm a further seven signings, with Cheetahs duo Henco Venter and Ox Nche expected to be among them.
