Bok centre Lukhanyo Am

Lukhanyo Am will be available for the Springboks’ end-of-year tour despite fracturing his forearm in the win over the All Blacks in Wellington. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

The centre has returned to the Sharks after being ruled out of the Boks’ final two home Tests of the Rugby Championship, but the relatively good news is that he will only be out of action for eight weeks.

The Sharks confirmed the extent of the injury to SARugbymag.co.za on Tuesday, with the 24-year-old set to miss the remainder of their Currie Cup campaign.

Am should return to training in around six weeks’ time, though, and is expected to be available for the Boks’ end-of-year tour, which includes Tests against England, France, Scotland and Wales.

In Am’s absence from the Boks, Jesse Kriel is set to start at outside centre in Saturday’s Test against the Wallabies in Port Elizabeth.

There will also be another change in the midfield, with André Esterhuizen likely to replace Damian de Allende, who also sustained an injury against New Zealand.

However, De Allende has remained in camp with the Boks in Port Elizabeth, with the injury not appearing to be as serious as first feared.
