Rassie Erasmus has indicated that Siya Kolisi remains firmly on track to lead the Springboks through to the 2019 World Cup.
Kolisi was named as the Springboks’ 61st Test captain back in May, and has capably led the team through a testing 2018 season.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror ahead of last Saturday’s Barbarians match at Twickenham, Kolisi spoke of the honour and responsibility of the role.
Erasmus, who coached the Barbarians, also provided a ringing endorsement of Kolisi’s leadership.
‘There are still some people who would love to see the Boks fail; some people still upset about the past,’ he said. ‘Siya doesn’t get positive feedback everywhere he goes.
‘But the way he’s handled it so far, I’ve got no doubt that barring injury or something really bad going wrong, he’ll be our captain through to Japan.’
