Bok lock Eben Etzebeth leaves the field

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says Eben Etzebeth may be fit enough to feature in the Test against France in Paris on Saturday.

Etzebeth was forced off in the second half of the loss to England at Twickenham with an ankle injury and it was originally thought to be severe enough to rule the experienced lock out of the Boks’ remaining Tests against France, Scotland and Wales.

However, following the team’s arrival in France on Monday, Erasmus revealed that Etzebeth could still have time to prove his fitness ahead of the clash against France.

‘I may have spoken too fast,’ Erasmus said. ‘He had a boot around his foot, he was limping on Saturday and we thought it would be a long injury. But he is much better and there is a good chance for him to play on Saturday. We will make our decision on Tuesday night.’

The squad has been boosted by the arrival of several overseas-based players – including Faf de Klerk, Willie le Roux, Franco Mostert, Francois Louw, Vincent Koch and Cheslin Kolbe – who were unavailable for the Twickenham Test as it fell outside the official window.
