Flyhalf Brandon Thomson has been released from his Stormers contract in order to join the Glasgow Warriors on a two-year deal.
The 22-year-old joined Glasgow earlier in the year for a two-month stint, but returned to the Cape to honour his contract. He has since been playing for Western Province in the Provincial Rugby Challenge.
On Tuesday, WP Rugby announced Thomson’s early release from the union, allowing him to rejoin the Warriors. However, he will only depart to Scotland in September, once fellow flyhalf Rob du Preez has returned to full fitness.
‘Brandon’s pathway through our system shows that we are identifying and developing talented players, which is encouraging,’ said WP director of rugby Gert Smal. ’He still has an important role to play for us before he leaves, but this is a great opportunity for him and we wish him all the best.’
Thomson’s father was born in Scotland, making him available to play for the national team without serving the required three-year residency.
