Leolin Zas and Juan de Jongh suffered serious injuries in the Stormers’ pre-season friendly against the Lions in Cape Town on Saturday.
The Stormers beat the Lions 57-40 at Newlands in their last Super Rugby warm-up fixture, but the win came at a significant cost after Zas suffered a broken leg and De Jongh tore knee ligaments.
On Monday, the Stormers confirmed that Zas had fractured both his fibula and tibia after coming on as a replacement, and ruled out of action for a year.
De Jongh tore his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and will be sidelined for between 10-12 weeks.
It is not clear whether coach Robbie Fleck will replace the backline duo for the Super Rugby campaign.
