Sharks flanker Jean-Luc du Preez will miss the start of the Super Rugby season due to an injury sustained during a short-term stint in England, writes CRAIG LEWIS.
Along with brother Rob, Du Preez linked up with the Sale Sharks on a short-term contract after helping the Durban-based Sharks clinch the Currie Cup title last October.
However, that stint was cut short after picking up an injury in a clash against Gloucester at the end of December, with Du Preez recently returning to Durban as a result.
The Sharks have just returned to pre-season training and are expected to release an injury report in the coming days, but SARugbymag.co.za understands that Du Preez will be out of action for up to three months.
It’s an unfortunate blow for Du Preez, who underwent surgery on a longstanding groin injury last August, but made a speedy recovery to play an important role in the Sharks’ charge to the Currie Cup title.
He also impressed in his brief time with the Sale Sharks, who are believed to be very keen to secure his long-term services after this season.
The Sharks are set to kick off their Super Rugby campaign against the Sunwolves on 16 February.
