Four Lions players, including captain Warren Whiteley, have overcome injuries in time to travel with the squad for their four-game tour of Australasia.
The Lions confirmed on Tuesday that Whiteley, Ross Cronjé, Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Aphiwe Dyantyi are in contention for selection after the completion of their respective rehabilitation programs and return to full fitness.
Whiteley had a grade-two posterior cruciate ligament injury, Dyantyi tore a pectoral muscle, Janse van Rensburg was nursing a haematoma while Cronjé had a rib injury.
Flank Cyle Brink (shoulder nerve entrapment) and scrumhalf Dillon Smith (rib cartilage) were the only injury casualties following the Lions’ win over the Stormers, but the duo is expected to be fit in time for their next game.
The Lions have a bye this coming week, but will face the Waratahs, Reds, Hurricanes and Highlanders on consecutive weekends between 20 April and 12 May.
