There are increasing indications that three teams will be scrapped from the Super Rugby competition, including two from South Africa.
It was initially reported by 1 News in New Zealand that two South African teams were set to be axed, with the other coming from Australia, while the The Times reported that two sources have confirmed that the Kings and Cheetahs will be cut from the competition. The other is expected to be the Rebels.
Japan’s Sunwolves and Argentina’s Jaguares will survive as the tournament reverts to 15 teams – where it stood between 2012-2015.
Sanzaar confirmed last Saturday that changes to Super Rugby were to be made, and would be announced within the coming days.
On Monday, Cheetahs CEO Harold Verster insisted that his franchise was safe.
