Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth

Eben Etzebeth is one of four injured Stormers players heading back to Cape Town.

The others are prop JC Janse van Rensburg, lock Pieter-Steph du Toit and flyhalf Kurt Coleman.

Janse van Rensburg has torn a bicep muscle and will be out for four to six weeks, while Coleman tore a deltoid ligament in his ankle in training. Etzebeth (calf) and Du Toit (knee) have been ruled out due to injury niggles.

There are also doubts about captain Siya Kolisi, who is nursing a shoulder injury, while prop Frans Malherbe will not be available for the final tour match against the Hurricanes on Friday, due to the Springbok management plan.

Juan de Jongh, Rynhardt Elstadt, Caylib Oostuizen and Damian Willemse will all join the Stormers squad ahead of the game on Wellington. Centre De Jongh (knee) and utility forward Elstadt (ankle) have both recently recovered from injury.

‘The injury list is growing, but luckily we welcome some quality players back this week and we are focused on the challenge ahead,’ said Stormers coach Robbie Fleck. ‘We know that we can improve in a number of areas, so the goal this week is to raise our game against the Hurricanes,’ he said.

The Stormers have suffered two heavy defeats on tour so far, against the Crusaders (57-24) and Highlanders (57-14).
