Wallabies playmaker Kurtley Beale has reportedly been detained Friday over an alleged sexual assault, according to reports.
The 34-year-old was reportedly arrested and taken to the Waverley police station.
The veteran fullback was expected to be charged over an alleged sexual assault at a licensed premises in the beachside suburb of Bondi on December 17, according to the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
“Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs and Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) are aware of the situation involving Kurtley Beale,” Rugby Australia said in a brief statement.
“As this is a police matter, and we understand there has been no charge made, we will be making no further comment at this time.”
The arrest comes after a 28-year-old woman reported to police in the Tweed/Byron Bay district that she had been allegedly sexually assaulted at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi Beach on December 17, 2022.
A 28-year-old woman reported to police in the Tweed/Byron Bay district on December 17, 2022 that she had allegedly been sexually assaulted at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi Beach.
Police said in a statement released on Friday that a 33-year-old man was arrested following a traffic stop on Rainbow Street in Kingsford and then transported to the Waverley police station.
Beale, who is 34 years old, went back to Sydney and the Waratahs to keep himself in the running to play for Australia at this year’s World Cup, which will be their fourth.
If he does, he will be only the third Australian (after George Gregan and Adam Ashley-Cooper) to play in four tournaments.
Beale has played in 95 Tests, and this month he was at a training camp for the Wallabies on the Gold Coast.
Since then, coach Dave Rennie has been fired, and Eddie Jones, who used to lead England, has taken his place.
