More than half of this year’s World Cup pool games have already sold out after tickets went on sale for the general public two days ago.
The tournament, scheduled to run between 20 September and 2 November in Japan, is primed to be completely sold out after more than 120,000 tickets were snapped up.
Organisers confirmed that tickets for 26 of the 40 pool stage games – including the Pool B clash between the Springboks and All Blacks – were effectively sold out, while only a limited number of premium tickets for the knockout games were still available.
According to Kyodo News, a small number of additional tickets will be made available to the general public – on a first come, first serve basis – from 19 January to 31 March. However, the Japanese organising committee is planning to release more tickets throughout the year after the tournament logistics have been sorted and official resales have been completed.
‘In terms of applications and sales, we are far in advance of even Rugby World Cup 2015,’ a source told Kyodo News.
