Lydia Monyepao has been appointed as the first-ever female and new CEO of Safa following the resignation of Tebogo Motlanthe.

The former Banyana Banyana player, who previously held the title of COO, was named as Motlanthe’s successor in a press conference called by Safa president Dr Danny Jordan in Johannesburg on Monday.

Advocate Tebogo Motlantheresigned from his post as chief executive officer last week and Safa wasted no time in appointing Monyepao as the new CEO as she becomes the first-ever female in this position.

“I have tendered my resignation, I’ve sent a letter which I’ve signed,” Motlanthe stated at Monday’s press conference.

“The one which you saw on social media, I would like to categorically say, it’s not my letter. I don’t know, mine has a signature.”

SAFA continues to focus on South Africa’s bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will conclude discussions regarding all regulatory requirements necessary to pursue the global event.

Banyana Banyana’s path to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in July will also be discussed, as will the selection of an Interim SAFA CEO.

There is no animosity between SAFA and Advocate Motlanthe; their relationship is cordial.
