The South African Football Association (Safa) has confirmed that three match officials tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the restart of the 2019-20 season.
Safa stepped up its efforts to ensure all officials are in great physical condition in preparation for the restart of the Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship.
Safa medical officer and chief compliance officer Dr Thulani Ngwenya revealed that all 110 match officials were tested and only three have come back positive.
‘Only three referees tested positive for Covid-19 but are all asymptomatic. We are monitoring them on a daily basis and they are quarantining in the other wing of the hotel,’ Dr Ngwenya told Safa’s official website.
Dr Ngwenya also said all match officials in camp were looking in good shape and, come August, will be ready for the arduous test.
