Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have revealed that the club will send official letters to all relevant parties asking them to resolve the clash of fixture dates in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and Fifa Club World Cup.

With Afcon scheduled to run between 9 January and 6 February in Cameroon and the Club World Cup set to kick off on 3 February and end on the 12th in the UAE, Al Ahly could be seriously compromised with several of their stars set to be in action with their respective national teams.

The Red Devils have thus announced, via their official website, that they will “send official letters” to the Egyptian Football Association, Caf and Fifa this week asking them to resolve the clash of dates between the two competitions,

“The FIFA Club World Cup will be held in the UAE between 3 and 12 February which clashes with the dates of the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held between 9 January and 6 February in Cameroon,” the statement read.

“Al Ahly SC have more than seven players at the Egyptian national team’s squad in addition to three foreign players who will represent their national teams in the competition, which will impact our participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.”

On Monday the Egyptian giants were drawn against Mexican side CF Monterrey in the second round, where a victory would have them go up against Brazilian club Palmeiras, with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea set to do battle with the winner of Al Hilal vs Al Jazira or Auckland City.
