Bafana Bafana have fallen two places to 74th in the latest Fifa rankings, making them the 15th-highest ranked African side.

The drop in Bafana’s ranking comes after their Cosafa Cup quarter-final defeat to Madagascar, who have since leapt eight places to 106th on the rankings. Baxter will be hoping his Bafana side can climb the rankings as they continue to develop under the Englishman.

Elsewhere on the continent, Africa’s World Cup representatives have also seen their rankings change. Tunisia, Africa’s highest-ranked nation, have fallen seven places from 14th to 21st on the overall standings, while Senegal have risen one spot to 27th.

Morocco and Egypt have also moved up one place to 41st and 45th respectively, with Nigeria having dropped from 47th to 48th.

At the top end of the rankings, Germany kept their No 1 spot, despite being winless in five games and having lost their past two matches in a row.

The defending World Cup champions remain above Brazil in second, while Belgium kept their third position.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, in fourth, sit above Lionel Messi’s Argentina in fifth. They are followed by European nations Switzerland and France in sixth and seventh.

Poland climbed two spots into eighth position, one ahead of Chile who failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia. Spain dropped two positions to round off the top ten.

Gareth Southgate’s England climbed into 12th spot, Uruguay are now 14th, while the Netherlands and Italy – who both surprisingly failed to qualify for the World Cup – fell to 17th and 19th respectively.
