Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has revealed his admiration for Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the Citizens’ Absa Premiership clash with the Soweto giants on Saturday.

McCarthy recently shed light on his move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2011 which didn’t materialise after disrespectful comments made by Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung.

Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goalscorer admits that he grew up supporting South Africa’s most decorated team and still has a soft spot for Giovanni Solinas’ side.

‘Overall, though, I still have a soft spot for Chiefs,’ he told IOL.

‘It’s the club I loved as a child. Growing up, I supported Chiefs. My dad was a massive Chiefs fan and as kids, if we didn’t support Chiefs, well, then we would have to find another place to stay,’ he concluded.

In addition to all his accolades, McCarthy holds a unique record of being the first South African to win three league titles with three different football clubs on two different continents (Africa and Europe), namely with: Ajax Amsterdam, FC Porto and Orlando Pirates respectively.

The two sides do duty at at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday with kickoff set for 3pm.
