SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie says he is looking forward to representing New Zealand when they take on Peru in their Fifa World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
The 30-year-old, who was recently named in Anthony Hudson’s 23-man squad, could make his 50th cap for the All White when they take on Peru at Westpac Stadium.
Brockie says he is honoured to be called up to the New Zealand national team, and insists he is relishing the chance to help the All Whites in their bid to secure a spot in the Fifa World Cup.
‘I was rung two weeks ago (by Hudson) to say I’d made the squad and I was over the moon,’ Brockie told Radio Sport.
‘I love playing for my country, and we’ve got two massive games to look forward to. I made my debut in 2005 and it’s the top honour you can have in football.
‘I’m loving the hype and the fans and a sold-out Westpac – it’s a dream come true.’
He said he never gave up hope of playing again for the All Whites after turning out in last year’s Nations Cup, and he hopes his leadership qualities will come to the fore this week.
Teammate Kosta Barbarouses believes that the partnership between Brockie and Rory Fallon will prove to be crucial for New Zealand in the final third.
‘What they bring off the pitch is pretty valuable – they’ll help us a lot over the next 10 days,’ Barbarouses said.
‘The players are focusing hard and preparing well for the biggest two games of many of the players’ lives.’
