Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he expected a dominant performance and a lot of goals, which his side delivered against Kaizer Chiefs.
The Brazilians cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Amakhosi thanks to a brace by Iqraam Rayners and goals from Peter Shalulile and Khuliso Mudau at the FNB Stadium.
Sundowns have now advanced to the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals, where they will take on Marumo Gallants at the Mbombela Stadium on November 10.
Mngqithi’s chargers will look to continue their current form when they welcome Polokwane City to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening.
“We learned our lesson from the previous match [against Chiefs], because in the previous match if you look at our first-half, it was a very dominant performance but second half we lost shape,” Mngqithi went on,” Mngqithi told SuperSport.
“I expected a dominant performance and a lot of goals in this match because I thought we started very well and we came with a nice pressing scheme because we knew they might have limitations with the goalkeeper and also the centre-backs when they are put under a lot of pressure.
“And their central midfielders were a little bit slow, so we knew we had a chance to steal a lot of balls and we stole a lot of balls but unfortunately they did not translate into goals and for me it’s always impressive to create scoring opportunities, not [play] for fun.”
