Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has backed striker Ranga Chivaviro despite criticism from the club’s supporters.

Chivaviro missed a number of chances in the match but eventually got his name on the scoresheet in the 73rd minute during their 4-0 win over Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout Cup.

The Soweto giants advanced top the quarter-finals of the competition and will now take on Mamelodi Sundowns in what is expected to be a mouth-watering fixture between the two sides.

Nabi is confident that Chivaviro will rediscover his form and start finding the back of the net more often.

“For Ranga Chivaviro, you know sometimes when a striker misses is not easy but this is football,” Nabi told SuperSport after the game.

“I don’t need the emotional reaction like the fans, my responsibility is to support my player.

“I push him, I promise he will score.”

“The first thing is before the game we spoke to the players, we showed them how important the victory of today is, it was our chairman’s birthday two days ago, who is someone who has given so much to this club, with sacrifices.

“We wanted really, with the players, the staff, to honour our chairman Kaizer Motaung [Sr], we wish him a very long life of health and success.”
