Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reacted to his side’s shock exit from the Carling Knockout Cup following their defeat to Magesi FC.

The Buccaneers suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the newly promoted side at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates will look to bounce back when they take on SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening.

Riveiro believes his side did play well but they were let down by mistake in certain situations.

“We didn’t play that bad, even in the first-half 2-0 down but the goals were something obscene, to be honest we cannot afford to defend those situations as a team because it was not individual mistakes,” Riveiro said on SuperSport TV.

“Sometimes it happens, it was as a collective, [it’s] something to be concerned [about] from my side. 3-0 at halftime, it was really difficult to come back, we tried until the end, we were close.

“It’s difficult to explain that we didn’t score more than one or two goals but congratulations to the opponent, they did their job, they managed to slow down the game enough to utilise their chances in transitions, that’s the reading of the game.

“[Mohau] Nkota, Rele [Mofokeng], [Tshegofatso] Mabasa, everybody had different types of chances today but it was not our day in front of goal. We could not even solve the problem that we created ourselves in the first-half, because we created more than enough.

“Today was not our day, congratulations to Magesi and we move to the next one.”
