Cape Town City have bolstered their forward line with the signing of Siphelele Mthembu from Free State Stars.
The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs man, who turned out for Stars in the Maize Cup last weekend, was rumoured to be close to signing a new contract with Ea Lla Koto but has been tempted by Benni McCarthy and his ambitious squad to make the move to Cape Town instead.

City announced the signing via a statement on their Twitter page which read: ‘CTCFC can confirm the signing of South African striker Siphelele Mthembu to bolster the forward options ahead of the new season.’

‘Mthembu joins the Citizens on a one-year deal with an option to extend. The striker finished the 2017-18 season with five goals in 19 starts,’ the club statement concluded.

McCarthy will look to the veteran forward to provide some competition to the likes of Matthew Rusike, Judas Moseamedi, Nana Akosah-Bempah and Masoud Juma for a place in the starting lineup.
