Kermit Erasmus has signed a two-year deal with AFC Eskilstuna in the Swedish Superettan, ending any hopes that PSL clubs had of bringing him back to South Africa.
The move was confirmed by the club on Monday evening, which saw the striker arrive as a free agent after leaving Stade Rennais last month following a mutual termination of his contract at the French club.
With the transfer window shut in most countries, the South African was left with limited options. Fortunately for him, the Swedish window is still open and that allowed the transfer to go through immediately.
Speaking to the club’s official website about his move, the former Orlando Pirates player said, ‘It was a tough decision to take, but this is a good opportunity for me to play again. I have not played football in a couple of months, so I have a good feeling. I’m just happy to do what I love again.
‘I do not like to talk about myself so much, but as I said; I’m a safe player with the ball, and I hope to show my qualities to all of the fans. Hopefully, I can win their love and confidence through my achievements.’
Eskilstuna were relegated from the Allsvenskan — Sweden’s top league — last season and have signed Erasmus to try help them go straight back up. The 27-year-old is expected to make his debut against Brage this weekend.
