Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he faces a tough task selecting his top goalkeeper between Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
Karius, who Klopp brought in from his former Bundesliga club Mainz, looks poised to make his debut for the Anfield club when they take on Derby County in the League Cup on Tuesday evening.
‘I know where your question should lead but the thing we wanted was to have two really strong goalkeepers and I think that is what we have,’ Klopp told the media, reports SportingLife.
‘Maybe the question makes sense but the answer doesn’t. There is no number one so there is no decision to make, it is all about performing, improvement and showing how much you can help the team,’ the manager added.
Klopp explained that he did not want to encourage hostility between his goalkeepers as he wanted both his stars to feel secure at the club and happy to contribute when they are called upon.
‘It is all about what I see in training and what I see in training is two very good goalkeepers. Now the boys have to perform,’ the manager explained.
Liverpool’s clash against Derby will take place at the iPro Stadium on Tuesday.
The action gets underway at 20:45.
