Kaizer Chiefs manager Steve Komphela believes Bernard Parker had an ‘almost perfect’ performance against Orlando Pirates during the Carling Black Label Champion Cup.

The veteran striker bagged the only goal of the match, to hand his side a narrow 1-0 win over the Buccaneers in the annual competition.

Komphela says he was pleased with the discipline Amakhosi showed throughout the match, but he believes his side could’ve won by a bigger margin if they had converted the chances they created.

‘We did well in the first half, but we should have scored a few more goals,’ Komphela reflected on the Soweto Derby.

‘We didn’t concede, keeping a clean sheet thanks to a good structure and discipline at the back. I was happy with that.

‘Pirates played better in the second half after they made some changes, with the likes of Musa Nyatama, Abbubaker Mobara and Thamsanqa Sangweni coming on.’

The Chiefs coach was full of praise for veteran striker Parker, who he believes had a great game, while also reserving special praise for Gustavo Paez and Kgotso Malope.

‘Bernard Parker had an almost perfect performance complementing Gustavo Paez up front. It’s good to see that the team is starting to understand Paez, especially in the way he makes his runs,’ he added.

‘Malope came on in the second half. He made a difference and nearly scored a goal as well.’
