Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena believes midfielder Cassius Mailula has “a lot of potential” but has urged him to remain grounded and continue to work hard.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation since getting promoted to the first team, having already scored six goals and registered one assist in just seven appearances across all competitions.
Mailula also walked away with his first man of the match award after he scored and assisted a goal in Sundowns’ 3-0 victory over Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium over the weekend.
Mokwena has since praised the attacking midfielder and believes his talent and quality will not only be good for the team but South African football.
“He’s doing exceptionally well in a very difficult moment for us,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“We don’t talk about the players that are missing, but we are missing almost our entire front line and to play a young boy like Cassius and give him the opportunity that he’s getting it’s not just good for Mamelodi Sundowns but for South African football.
“So long it may continue with a lot of humility and support around him. Keep his feet on the ground and continue to work hard, there’s a lot of potential.
“The most important thing now is a lot of humility, don’t push the name too much, push the contributions and performances and not too much the name.”
