Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes that history favours Cape Town City going into their Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

In the four matches played between the two sides, the team from Chloorkop has only managed one victory against the men from Cape Town. That victory came in their last match where the teams were separated by a bit of magic from Percy Tau which set up Khama Billiat to score the only goal in a game where City were arguably the better team.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference building up to the game against Benni McCarthy’s team, the former Bafana Bafana coach spoke about the history between the two teams and the threat they pose.

‘We are playing a very good team. I think everyone knows the history between us and them and the history favours them. The last match favours us, but the last three games encounters favour them.

‘They are a good team, a well-oiled machine team, knows how to play with the ball and also can play without the ball. They have a lot of experience with a young and upcoming coach who has a good pedigree of top football in Europe, playing days, and a good understanding of the game.

‘We have to give our respect and pay our respect to them. I understand that they are a good team.

‘As I said, the history favours them which always makes us understand that you are playing against a good team that has had better results than us,’ concluded Mosimane.

Sundowns will take on Cape Town City on Sunday at the Cape Town Stadium in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
