Patrice Motsepe is officially the new Confederation of African Football (Caf) president after running unopposed in Friday’s election.
The Downs president was voted in as the new Caf boss on Friday by vote of acclamation in Rabat, Morocco.
Motsepe was left as the only remaining candidate in the elections after the withdrawal of his three west African rivals. Augustin Senghor of Senegal, Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast pulled out of the race last week to leave Motsepe as the outright favourite to ascend the throne at Friday’s CAF congress.

The other candidates stepping down to assume leadership roles under Motsepe in a move which looks to united African football.
Meanwhile, the previous president Ahmad Ahmad, whose reign was blighted by allegations of maladministration including the Madagascan being banned by Fifa, had his ban from football upheld by CAS and was not allowed to run.
The South African will now step away from his role at Sundowns with his son set to replace him as chairman.
