Orlando Pirates have confirmed that experienced midfielder Musa Nyatama has been released from his contract at the club.

The midfielder moved to the Soweto giants from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017, but with his deal expiring at the end of the season the club have decided to release the player after he requested it on Friday.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a fruitful first couple of seasons at the Buccaneers where he made over 70 appearances for the club. He won the Player and Player’s Player of the Season awards in his first season, during which he managed 32 appearances in the heart of Milutin Sredojevic’s midfield.

But after just seven appearances this season the midfielder has opted to go in search game time elsewhere.

The club made the announcement on their website late on Friday.

‘Musa who had his contract ending at the end of this season, had a meeting with management earlier today, whereby he requested to be released from his existing contract,’ said Pirates in a statement.

‘Management has acceded to his request. Musa has been exemplary on and off the field and we would like to thank him for his contribution and professionalism he displayed during his tenure. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.’
