Despite leading Everton away from relegation trouble and an eighth-placed finish Sam Allardyce will not manage the club next season after the Merseyside team sacked the former England manager.

The former Sunderland boss was appointed as a successor to Ronald Koeman on an 18-month deal last November, with an immediate brief of guiding Everton away from relegation danger.

That was accomplished soon enough, but a significant section of the Merseyside club’s fanbase have become disgruntled with a perceived negative style of football under the 63-year-old boss, who still had a year left on his contract.

Despite leading Everton to an eighth-place finish, his widely anticipated departure was confirmed on Wednesday.
