Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez fired Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over Swansea City at Old Trafford on Saturday evening in their Premier League encounter.
Jose Mourinho’s men came into the game desperate for a positive performance and got off to the perfect start as Lukaku gave them the lead on eight minutes. Some lovely build-up playing between Sanchez and Jesse Lingard saw the Chilean find Lukaku in the box, who made no mistake with the finish, smashing it into the top corner.
The Red Devils continued to push forward and after a number of attempts, they doubled their lead through Sanchez. The former Arsenal man was slipped through by a deft Lingard pass, which he took early, arrowing his shot past Lukas Fabianski into the Swans’ goal.
With the score on 2-0 at the break, Manchester United were in control without having to get out of second gear.
Carlos Carvahal’s men started the second half positively as they looked to get back into the game. The Welsh side had the first chance of the half as Tammy Abraham forced David de Gea into a smart save to his right. Moments later, the young English striker again tested the Spanish stopper, which De Gea passed again.
Both teams were struggling to create any clear-cut chances as the game progressed. United looked content with the scoreline and were happy to keep the ball and try to run down the clock. To Swansea’s credit, they continued to push forward, which did leave them open at the back. United, however, could not take advantage.
The game was won in the first half and with the three points, United move back into second place.
