Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says that his team are looking to make the fans proud by beating Manchester City in this weekend’s Manchester Derby.

The highly anticipated fixture will provide Pep Guardiola’s side with the chance of clinching the Premier League title. The Blues thrashed Everton 3-1 last weekend and the result means they now need just three points to secure their first title under the Spaniard.

Despite sitting 16 points behind the Champions elect, Mata claims that the Red Devils will be out to please the United faithful by prolonging the inevitable title success of their cross-town rivals.

‘This week, we will keep working on a game that many people are already talking about,’ he told the club’s website. ‘Of course, I mean the derby against City.

‘This game doesn’t come in an ideal situation, for there’s quite a gap of points between the two of us, but we all know that it’s a special game.

‘We’re looking forward to playing against them and having a good performance. That’s what our fans deserve.’

The Manchester Derby will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, kick off at 18:30.
