Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a double as Manchester United thrashed Newcastle United 4-1 at Old Trafford while Manchester City edged Leicester City 1-0 courtesy of a strike from Bernardo Silva.
Ronaldo opened the scoring for the home side moments before the half-time break as he tapped home into an empty net after Mason Greenwood’s shot was fumbled into his path.
Newcatsle hit back after the break as Miguel Almerion got on the end of a counter-attack to level the scores.
It didn’t take long for United to hit back as a surging run from Luke Shaw opened up space for Ronaldo who fired through the legs of the Magpies keeper to put United back ahead.
Bruno Fernandes then got on the scoresheet as he smashed a long-range strike into the top corner from distance to put United firmly in control.
Jesse Lingard then rounded off a flowing move to hand United a 4-1 win and empathic three points on Ronaldo’s homecoming.
