Lewandowski scores for Poland against Spain

Spain will need to get a result in their final Group E game after a Robert Lewandowski equaliser ensured that Poland got the share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Euro 2020 clash in Seville on Saturday night.

The Poles came close to opening the scoring early on through Mateusz Klich’s dipping shot from 25-yards out which glanced just over Unai Simón’s crossbar.

Spain though managed to grab the equaliser through the much talked about Alvaro Morata who provided poacher’s finish from Gerard Moreno’s goal-bound shot from six yards out. After the goal was initially ruled out for offsides but VAR overturned the decision to the delight of the Spaniards.

Poland will be wondering how they didn’t equalise just before half-time when Karol Świderski’s low drive hit the post before Lewandowski was denied from close range by Simòn on the rebound.

The Bayern Munich striker made up for that miss in the early stages of the second half when he headed home Kamil Jóźwiak’s cross to equalise for Poland for his 62nd goal for his country.

Moreno then had the perfect opportunity to restore Spain’s lead when he was fouled by Jakub Moder in the box, but the Villarreal striker his the post with his spot-kick.

Wojciech Szczęsny then denied Morata with a stunning save from close range as Luis Enrique’s side searched for a winner but Poland held out and now Spain need to win their final game with Slovakia to ensure of qualification to the last-16.
