Tottenham Hotspur travelled to face CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday and finally wore the side down to claim the full three points. 

Spurs began the game on the front foot as they looked to boss possession while Moscow were happy to sit back and hit them on the counter. They did just that after six minutes but failed to create a genuine chance.

Moscow began to up their game as the match reached the quarter-hour mark but Spurs produced some excellent play of their own as Erik Lamela and Vincent Janssen combined well, only for the latter to be ruled offside.

Spurs were at it again just short of the half-hour mark as Dele Alli failed to connect with a great ball from Christian Eriksen. Zoran Tosic then had a stunning chance to score for Moscow just two minutes later but powered his effort wide of the mark.

Dele Alli cracked a ferocious shot into the crossbar with 34 minutes played before Spurs were again denied by the offside flag. With Spurs firmly in control, they came close again on the stroke of half-time as Toby Alderweireld had his header well saved.

The second-half resumed with Spurs dictating things and they were soon looking threatening as Son Heung-min, Alli and Lamela all had half-chances.

Son came desperately close with a curling effort after 55 minutes before Janssen missed a golden chance as he hit wide with a first-time shot.

With little over 20 minutes remaining in the game, Son finally broke the deadlock. The South Korean was played through by Lamela and this time he made no mistake as he fired home from just inside the box.

With Spurs continuing to look menacing and time running out for Moscow they pushed forward in numbers late on in the hope of stealing a goal. In the end it wasn’t to be as Spurs held on to record a 1-0 victory.
