A late equaliser by Danny Rose earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in their Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Tottenham started the brighter but it was Liverpool who should have taken an early lead as Roberto Firmino was released by Sadio Mane in the box, and found Philippe Coutinho in space on the right but Michel Vorm got down to make a save at the near post.
Spurs were dealt a blow after 28 minutes when full back Kyle Walker picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Vincent Janssen and the striker should have had a penalty four minutes later.
He raced into the box but was grappled by Reds defender Joel Matip, however, referee Bobby Madley remained unmoved much to the anger of the home fans.
Both side’s struggled to carve out chances as the half went on, but 10 minutes later, the Reds were awarded a penalty after Erik Lamela was judged to have clipped Firmino just inside the Spurs penalty area. James Milner stepped up and made no mistake from 12-yards to give his side a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 to Liverpool, as the sides entered the halftime break.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half, but Adam Lallana was judged to be offside in the build-up to the goal.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were dominant in the second half, with Firmino playing in Georginio Wijnaldum whose effort just goes over the bar before Matip just headed over the crossbar from a Milner corner in the 57th minute.
But Tottenham came racing back into the match just after the hour mark with Christian Eriksen saw his effort blazed over the bar after a great cross from Eric Dier before Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was called into action to keep out a Lamela free-kick and bullet header from Toby Alderweireld.
The hosts were back on level terms in the 72nd minute as Dier whipped in a cross with the ball ricocheting off the head of Lamela and falling into the path of Rose at the back post. The England defender was afforded the time and space to compose himself and squeeze a volley past Mignolet.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages of the match, but neither could carve out a chance to grab a late winner as the match ended level after the final whistle.
