Tottenham Hotspur have moved to bolster their striking options with the signing of former Chelsea flop Timo Werner from German side RB Leipzig.
The German international will be on loan for the rest of the season in North London, after which Spurs will have the option to buy the 27-year-old.
Werner previously had a two-year stint at Chelsea, where he made 89 appearances and scored 23 goals, and helped the team claim the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup titles.
But he was often criticised by fans for simple misses and despite a rich trophy haul, his time at Stamford Bridge is seen as a failure, leaving him with some unfinished business in the Premier League.
His arrival is timely with lead forward and top scorer Son Heung-min away at the Asian Cup for South Korea until mid-February.
Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League standings with 39 points, six behind leaders Liverpool. Werner could debut against Manchester United on Sunday.
