Defending Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their squad with the deadline day acquisition of Phakamani Mahlambi from Al Ahly on a five-year deal.

With the PSL transfer window officially closing at 11:59pm on Friday, Pitso Mosimane’s side finally landed the signing of Mahlambi ― who has been on their radar since the forward fell out of favour at the Red Devils.

The former Young PSL Player of the Year left Bidvest Wits to join the eight-time CAF Champions League winners in 2017, however he failed to hold down a regular spot in the side, making only 15 appearances for the club.

Masandawana reportedly forked out $900‚000 (R13.2-million) for Mahlambi’s services, with a portion of it going to former club Wits as a sell-on fee from the Clever Boys’ contract with the Egyptian club.

Ahly‚ who snapped up Mahlambi for a reported €1.3-million (R21.5m)‚ are said to have lost up to R8m on the deal.

The Bafana Bafana international is said to be available for Sundowns’ second-leg semi-final clash against Cape Town City on Sunday in Atteridegville, however, the 20-year-old is expected to play no part in the clash due to his lack of fitness.
