Mamelodi Sundowns have made their first move of the January transfer window after confirming the signing of right-back Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa United on a long-term deal.
Mdunyelwa has been a regular feature for Chippa for the last three seasons since joining from Cape Town City, where he was unable to break into the first team.
Chippa will be loathe to lose him, but like many DStv Premiership clubs, have the need to balance the books and Sundowns is among the few clubs who can provide transfer revenue.
“The 24-year-old defender joins The Yellow Nation as the first mid-season addition of the window after undergoing medicals and agreeing to contact terms with Mamelodi Sundowns,” The Brazilians said in a statement.
“Mdunyelwa’s started his journey in professional football featuring for Western Cape outfits Cape Town City FC and Cape Umoya FC before joining Chippa United in 2021.
“Zuko’s performances for the Chilli Boys earned him a strong reputation in the football fraternity as a versatile full-back and he has played 13 of the Chilli Boys’ 15 matches thus far this season.”
Sundowns have been using Khuliso Mudau and Thapelo Morena as right-back options this season.
